TheirStory is a platform that streamlines the process for any community in order to capture, transcribe, edit, and preserve oral stories.
An important part of this process is to generate transcriptions for those stories, allowing users to search, index, and organize the information.

Challenging Problems

Obsolete service for audiovisual transcription (Google Speech Service).

Long mistake-tracking reviews required by the user.

Old design and tech stack: the platform used outdated technologies, and the design was subpar.

Obsolete service for video calls and recording (Opentok).

Agile solutions

We integrated with superior services such as Speechmatics, OpenAI, and Assembly AI, offering AI-powered transcription with speaker detection, chaptering, and summaries.

We improved the UX with a new design, making the process easier and allowing integration with auto-chaptering, summaries, and clips.

We redesigned the entire site, and the app, to provide a better user experience. We enabled the organization of projects and folders, allowing users to better manage all their interviews.

We integrated with superior services such as Dolby and Daily.co.

Some highlights

Considering a smart move to build an end-to-end solution for the transcription process, our team used Speechmatics & Whisper, AI Model developed by the creators of ChatGPT.

Also, seeking for a more dynamic and better performance, an AWS SQS eased the reception of the tasks, starting Intensive GPU EC2 instances based on the number of requests (using Scaling Groups).

Finally, the experts chose Python in order to perform and store the transcription and diarization (speaker detection).
